Claire Jaycock

"Open Skate" is a project documenting New Zealand's own Roller Derby team and their journey to the 2025 Roller Derby World Cup that took place during July in Innsbruck, Austria. As both a photographer and member of Team New Zealand Roller Derby, Claire was in a unique position to document from the inside using proximity, experience and familiarity to showcase the chaos, athleticism and dedication of the players.

Roller Derby is a full-contact sport played on roller skates by women and gender-diverse athletes around the world. In collaboration with the Local Bike Shop in the Island Bay Village, Claire will be showcasing a selection of images from the project during the South Coast Arts Trail.
