Nicola Shuttleworth + Simon Morris

Nicola is a Whanganui-a-Tara-based potter working from her studio in Island Bay, a practice of twenty years making functional ceramic ware to hold and to use.

She believes in living daily life with handmade objects that enrich experiences with friends and family. She loves making stacks, groups and individual pieces using similar forms with warm, natural coloured glazes. Her clay bodies are blended using mainly New Zealand clays, and she makes all her own glazes.

While her usual range is fired in an electric kiln, more recently she and partner Simon Morris have been exploring some wood firing, undertaking a residency at Driving Creek earlier this year. Their Open Studio in Freeling St will include work from this residency as well as work made in Nicola’s studio.
